Why an object
Prayer has always been physical. A body lowers itself, a room quiets, a few minutes are set apart from everything else. Somewhere in that space, an object is already present, whether it's noticed or not: a cushion, a rug, a bare floor.
Stillroom exists to give that object real consideration, in material, in form, and in the small decision to remove whatever gets in the way of stillness. We are not trying to reinvent prayer or make it more efficient. The product is simple. That simplicity is the point.
What we design
Stillroom sits between faith, design, ritual, interiors, and personal devotion. The first object is the Devotional Kneeling Pad, built for comfort in a moment that deserves none of the distraction. It won't be the last object we make. We're building Stillroom as a home for devotional design more broadly, not a single-product store.
Where it began
This started inside my own family, before it had anything to do with a product.
My aunt had noticed my grandmother was struggling. Kneeling, something she'd done her whole life without a second thought, had quietly become difficult for her. So my aunt went looking for something to make it easier. What she found didn't feel like it had been made with much thought at all.
That stayed with me. Prayer is physical before it's anything else, and somewhere along the way, the objects we use for it stopped getting the same care we'd give almost anything else in the home. I didn't set out to build a company. I noticed a real need, close to home, and decided the object deserved better.
I'm Fritz-Lee Saint Paulin, and I also serve as Head of Technology at my church here in Orlando. That role has shaped a lot of how Stillroom approaches the churches and ministries it works with, not as customers so much as communities I already know from the inside.
Where we stand
Stillroom is rooted in spiritual and devotional practice rather than tied to one tradition or denomination. The Devotional Kneeling Pad is designed in Florida and manufactured with a dedicated production partner. Batch 001, our first production run, is intentionally limited while we learn from real use before producing more.
